Knitwear designer, Madeleine Thompson's new look book features friend and muse, British model Poppy Delevigne. In her namesake line of cashmere separates—think striped A-line tank dresses, pastel-colored loungewear and cozy oversized cardigans—Thompson fills our need for luxurious, everyday comfort pieces. Fans of the collection, which launched in 2007, include Kate Moss, Sienna Miller, and Lily Donaldson.

Fashion designers: Luella – Autumn-Winter 2009/2010 at the London Fashion Week

Luella Bartley launched a collection inspired by school uniforms, a little military, and with a British punk touch. Although it is not so remarkable as the collection for spring-summer 2009, which is outstanding and charming, this new collection has really nice details like the particular zippers (or zip fasteners) with beautiful shapes, and sheer fabrics mixed with other fabrics to create a great effect.

This time, it seems that Milla Jovovich is attending a lot of fashion shows at the Paris Fashion Week. Once again, she showed up to sit in a front row. Her dress is one of the best looks that have been seen in this important fashion event in the French capital: it is a perfect dress and she wore it with a belt in coral, a color of the season.

Fashion the downside

In my previous post I talked about the positive things of fashion shows. I feel the need to talk about the downside as well, because it's not all as great as it may look at fist sight.

Fashion shows is all about an artistic expression of a designer. Clothes are worn by people, and those people wearing the clothes on the runway are inevitably part of the total image. When a designer will design clothes he also selects someone to wear these clothes, someone that fits his/her image, the creative vision of the design.
Somehow most designers feel that a tall slim girl is ideal. If you look at the shape of a person on a sketch of a fashion designer, you will see this is a none existing profile of a human. See this image of Versace where you can see an already slim model is twice the size of the sketched girl.

Fashion Design and Sewing Worksheet

(sketch by my 14-year-old daughter, Marielle)

Thought I’d share my current worksheet I use to streamline my design and sewing production of my boys’ clothing line.

Clothing Design and Sewing Sheet

I always attach a sketch or photo AND fabric swatches to each worksheet. It makes the process so much easier. This worksheet gets utilized for both custom orders and assembly-line sewing.

Once I start “real” production (manufacturing) for the wholesale market this coming year, this worksheet will change as there will be things which will have to be done differently.
